You have to let go before you proceed. The problem doesn’t lie on him, its insecurity with yourself. You got to learn how to learn go. Nobody say it’s easy, but you gotta think about present and the future. You are what matter to him now, all the past feelings or things he did in the past is the past. As long as he doesn’t do it now. It takes time, you gotta constantly remind yourself at the start, it gets naturally that once you start thinking, you will throw the thoughts away. Each time you think about his past, think about the good things he have did for you, things that he have spent effort on, special things you both share, those are what really matter.
If you let the past lock you down, your relationship will not go forward. You want it to flourish? You gonna start “forgiving” him for the things he did in the past. Rem he doesn’t do those things anymore. You can do yourself the favor of just trusting him a little more so you won’t suffer that much. Stay positive and help yourself suffer lesser.
